A big thank you to everyone hoping, praying and raindancing for better weather - the wind stopped completely in the early hours of this morning and the sun has been shining all day. Now, if you could just do the same for the ice, I'd be laughing...

Imagine if you will, a giant ice rink covered in scale models of the Sydney opera house, between one and ten metres high. Now imagine blowing the whole lot up with dynamite, turning the temperature down to -41 and dragging a bath tub with two grown men in it through the remains for a few miles. I've never seen worse ice, or bigger pressure ridges.

The main thing is that I'm feeling back on top of things and I'm looking forward to battling the ice again tomorrow.

Today is dedicated to the team at Serco that brought this whole thing to life - Robert, Kevin, Alastair, Nikki, Debbie, Simon and Marc. Thank you.

P.S. I've had the YMCA song stuck in my head for the last three days (along with snippets of New Kids on the Block's 'Right Stuff'). Should I be concerned?

# Keep going

Glad to hear that you had a good day, think you should turn that MP3 player up a bit louder though, YMCA and New Kids on the Block for 3 days - I'll start praying!
You're doing a fantastic job!

# Keep at it! (as if you had a choice now)

It is alright to sing "YMCA;" you need only fee concerned if you have a compulsion to stop pulling in order to do the hand motions while singing:-)

By Calvin Clift on Wednesday, 17 March - 02:04 pm -0800

# Keep on trucking

K-B-I-L-L-Y super sounds of the 70's. Perhaps a little Stuck in the Middle?
keep on - you are doing a grand job. Cheers

# The Office

If u want to keep warmer ben throw a few moves like the david brent dance that you were perfecting in the bar at Khatanga (I have the footage to prove it). Get jiggy with it mate. Keep on trucking love Fister the soundman

# Echoing Condor

Yes we are all charting your progress Ben, keep up the good work.

I'll start to worry when you start having the 'Birdie' song go round your head ;-)

By Lisa (Mrs fish) on Wednesday, 17 March - 11:30 am -0800

# Concerned? You better believe it!

Quite disturbing to hear that you have been singing YMCA and New Kids on the Block over the past few days. Still if it helps you get through it then you can be forgiven. I came across your site last week from a guy at Legend Internet who has your URL as his email footer. Have been religiously hooking up each day to see how you're getting on. Its an amazing thing that you're doing and you have my total respect for even thinking of doing an expedition of this kind, let alone actually been out there on your own dragging your equipment with you unaided. Good luck with it all.

Katy

P.S Start to really worry when you find yourself doing the actions to YMCA and attempting to breakdance to "Right Stuff" - insanity will have prevailed at that point :-)

# I hlope that the snow is low down there!

# Keep going!!!!

Congrats on the good weather.
Keep going and keep singing those songs in your head.
If anything else gets stuck up there use "the girl from impanema" to get it out.
Works everytime.
Good luck.

# just like Ben-----nope not even close

I've been following your journey every day which leads up to my story. Today I decided to go ice fishing here in Wisconsin. I have about a mile to walk on the lake to get to my favorite fishing spot. As I was pulling my sled (ie the portable ice shack with my gear and auger) your journey came to mind. Just then I looked down and saw dog tracks on the lake--guess what my first thought was---YUP Polar bears. Despite the danger I continued on. I guess your getting in my head.
God Bless you in your travels
Rod
p.s. Fishing was Poor today glad your day was better.

# YMCA STUCK IN YOUR HEAD

There's nothing wrong with having Y MCA stuck in your head for three days. It could have have been Cool Water or Who Let the Dogs Out.

# Good days and bad

Worried about you yesterday, happy to hear today is a better day! The photo is incredible. I can't imagine what it must be like to be a part of such stark beauty. Sun shining, no wind - what more could one need? You need to think of some other songs though....Maybe John Phillip Souza marches (American composer). They always get me moving to the beat. Maybe I'm dating myself....

Good thoughts being sent to you every day. Stay safe!

By Gwen on Tuesday, 16 March - 10:27 pm -0800

# Polar Joke!

I Sat next too the comedian Tom O'Connor at a Variety Club Ball on Saturday "do you know any polar jokes to make my friend Ben smile ,"I asked. His message was follows........
Eskimo cut a hole in ice and lowered a fishing line in.
Voice above boomed --
"There are no fish there"
"What?" cried the Eskimo
"There are no fish there" came the voice again
"Is this the Lord speaking?" asked the Eskimo
"No, it's the owner of the ice rink!!"
All the best mate .....signed Tom O'Conner.
Maybe bad jokes bring sunshine!!
so hope the sun continues to shine
and the ice becomes flat.
you are sending some great pics.
Takes me back
Warm hugs Babs X

# I'm doing the "Happy Dance."

Great Ben. The Force is ON!
I'm doing the "Happy Dance" for you.

Who knows, because of your perseverence, you could be one of our first human explorers on Mars in 10 years. (Believe it or not, these discussions can be found at coffee/tea time.)

I feel at times that we're all there with you...do these messages help you? It is my hope that they do, because we're all with you and wishing you the best and success! We'll be there every step of the way! :-) Ok, gotta run and do my ice dance now...

# holy cow

ben, i don't even like going for a walk around the block with myself, let alone doing what you're doing. if you can stand to be with yourself for, what?, three months, i guess i can give myself a try for a 30 minute walk a day.
hope you're singing a new song to yourself by now. the idea of the theme from rocky is a great one. just don't start hummng the Happy Birthday Song. you'll drive yourself nutty.
keep your frozen chin up, you crazy kid. i'll be checking in on you daily.
this note is from Tennessee where spring is showing its beautiful face.

First sign of madness - Nurse get this man his pills! Well done so far Ben, keep up the good work etc.

Cheers,

# raindancing...

i'm very happy the weather is fine, we gotta think about some kind of prayer for the ice though :P. Be careful and don't give up. YMCA is a good song to be skiing on. Songs that really get me going is anything by Linkin Park but then again i'm not solo on my way to the north pole, but webdesigning in front of the comp. Oh well. :) Take care. Eat right. I'll be praying and hoping and raindancing for the ice-problem. Hopefully it works... :P

# Working Again...

Gosh normally I am the first one to send a comment! I guess I am getting slow, or you just alot of admirers now. I am so happy for you and was actually laughing at your description. It's amazing really! I am so happy about the weather. Do you have a printout of the moon stages, since we all know that affects the weather where you are! I am so so happy for you, as for the songs, maybe you should get into "today's top 40" for a while then go back to old skool! You know what song is really inspirational and get you going - Everessence's whole album!

Keep up the good work I will be on the look out tomorrow to be the FIRST.

# I like bananas

Ben! Thanks for the update - i'm glad things are looking up for you, I was getting a little discouraged. I pray for good weather and smooth ice.

# YAHOO !!!!

Dear Ben,
Julia and I are glad that today is a BRIGHT DAY :-) for you. You needed a break just to know this is all worth it. We know what dreary day's can do to a man's soul and the intestinal fortitude you have to endure just to get by. and just to let you know, you were mentally challanged with YMCA and soon it will be the theme song to Rocky.. :-)
God's speed
sincerely
Brian and Julia

# YMCA

Thats how it started for Fister too. Don't fight it! As for the ice, it sounds tough but I know you're tougher. We're logging on every day. Good to hear you're on the front foot again. Maybe Tubthumping by Chumbawumba would be a better one to have in your head. 'I get knocked down but I get up again, you aren't ever gonna keep me down....'
Alexi.
